Anxiety: What You Need To Know

Anxiety and Acupuncture

Are you a San Ramon resident who struggles with racing thoughts, worry that disrupts your life, and/or sleep issues? Do you deal with chronic pain that keeps you wondering if you'll be able to make it through your daily activities? If so, it's possible that you may be suffering from anxiety. Anxiety goes beyond standard worrying and often presents with intrusive thoughts that make it difficult to go about your normal activities. Many people who suffer from anxiety don't get the results they're looking for with other forms of medicine. At Bay Area Acupuncture in San Ramon, we use holistic health care treatments including acupuncture, cupping, and nutritional assessments to help our patients find relief from anxiety.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

An ancient Chinese medicine technique: acupuncture, is thought to work by redirecting the flow of energy (also known as Qi) throughout the body. An acupuncturist is knowledgeable of different points in the body at which Qi can be redirected with the painless insertion of a thin needle. Unlike other treatment techniques, acupuncture patients report no side effects and generally, begin to notice improvement soon after the completion of their first treatment.

Anxiety and Pain Management

Acupuncture is widely regarded as a tool for pain management. Many people who suffer from chronic pain also experience anxiety, often due to the fact of never being sure of when their pain will strike. Acupuncture can be used to manage both anxiety and chronic pain. Many patients notice that when their chronic pain begins to fade, their anxiety fades as well.

What to Expect

Before your first acupuncture session, we'll talk with you about your goals for treatment, as well as any health conditions you're experiencing. We'll talk you through the acupuncture process and answer any questions you may have. During your session, your acupuncturist will insert thin needles into specific points in your body to redirect energy. You rest comfortably with these needles in place for up to twenty minutes at a time. Most patients sleep. Your comfort is our top priority.
