Cupping Provided by Our Acupuncturist in San Ramon and brentwood

About Cupping

Cupping is a procedure that consists of our acupuncture specialist using cups that provide suction. As the cups suction your skin, they encourage blood flow throughout the area. We use cups comprised of either glass, bamboo, earthenware, or silicone. This practice dates back to 1,550 B.C. in Egypt!

Benefits of Cupping

Cupping therapy encourages blood flow through your body, which can increase your healing time and optimizes your immune function. Cupping may act as a pain management technique, especially in people who have lower back pain. It's possible for it to relax you too. Other potential benefits include improved skin health and digestion.

What to Expect During and After Cupping

In most cases, our practitioner uses three to five cups for your first appointment. At max, we use seven cups after your first treatment. Next, a rubber pump is used on the cups, so they form suction. The cups are positioned on your skin for a few minutes until they create a seal. The air inside of the cups is what creates the suction. Usually, our practitioner leaves them on your skin for a total of fifteen minutes for you to feel the full effect. While the cups are on your back, your skin will rise, and your blood vessels will widen.

Generally, your skin starts to decrease in redness within the first 48 to 72 hours, but it may take up to 10 days for all skin to return to normal. Most patients see a decrease in redness and irritation the more they have the treatment.
